Pilar Lamadrid recovers second position in the iQFOiL World Championship

MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Thursday, Spanish sailor Pilar Lamadrid regained second place in the women's competition at the iQFOiL World Championship, which is held in the waters of Lanzarote with a windsurfing modality that will be on the program of the next Olympic Games in Paris.

The fourth day of this World Cup began with a wind of between 14 and 15 knots from the East, which decreased below 10 at times in some areas. There was also no shortage of roles, so the participants had to tread carefully so as not to be left behind.

On what was the first day of the Final Series, with the fleet already divided into a gold and silver group, the British Emma Wilson once again demonstrated her great form. Although she punctured in one of the day's races – 33rd, she discarded it – in the rest of the day she maintained her advantage with two new partial victories, within a second and an eighth.

Of the 15 races that the women's fleet has done so far, the British team has won 11. With a ticket to Paris 2024 secured, Wilson is not making it easy for rivals like Lamadrid, who rose one place in the general classification compared to the day before. She did it after a very regular day and 4-7-6-5 results in the first four rounds; In the fifth and last race, the Sevillian did not finish the race.

VAN OPZEELAND DOES NOT LET GO OF THE MALE LEADERSHIP

The Dutch Luuc van Opzeeland does not give up the men's lead and began this Thursday by claiming victory, however in the following rounds it was not so regular 8-2-(11)-9. More consistent was the Italian Nicolò Renna, finishing practically on the podium in all the tests except for the last one, which he ruled out; 2-1-3-4-(18) were the results that placed him with provisional silver.

The Mallorcan Nacho Baltasar repeated as first Spaniard and fourth youth player. He is 13th and still has tenth place within his reach, which would allow him to advance to the final day. The remaining Spaniards in the gold group are Bernat Tomàs (22nd) and Jorge Aranzueque (34th).
