Pilar Alegría visits the CAR in Madrid

MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, visited the facilities of the High Performance Center (CAR) in Madrid this Thursday, in her first contact with high-level sports, according to a statement.

Alegría was thus able to see both the Madrid CAR facilities and the athletes who train daily at the sports center. Accompanied by the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), Víctor Francos, the minister toured the training areas of disciplines such as swimming, wrestling, rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics and breaking, witnessing training and exercises.

The members of the men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics teams Ray Zapata and Ana Pérez; Juan de la Torre ‘XAK’ and Ana Ortega ‘Furia’, from the national breaking team; and the senior rhythmic gymnastics team qualified for Paris 2024 were some of the athletes with whom Alegría shared space.

The minister highlighted, in statements shared by the CSD, her “effort in the daily life” of athletes and their “resignations in personal lives” to dedicate themselves “body and soul to their passion.” In addition, she showed them her “sincere support” in the race towards Paris 2024 and other national and international competitions.

On this first visit to the CAR in Madrid, Alegría was also interested in the economic investment allocated to the center and each of the sports modalities, figures detailed by the deputy director general of High Competition of the CSD, Aitor Canibe, during the tour.

Among them, the organization highlighted the allocation of 30 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan aimed at the modernization of the three state CARs and the creation of the future Center of Sports Excellence in the center of Madrid. As well as the 48 million allocated to the ‘Team Spain Elite’ Olympic and Paralympic preparation programs.
