Pilar Alegría: “It is an essential objective to improve representation and equality in sport”

MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, highlighted this Friday as “an inalienable objective” the fact of “improving representativeness” and also “truly achieving those equality quotas also in the world of sports”, referring to the XVIII Gala of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).

“It is an inalienable objective to improve representativeness and truly achieve those equality quotas also in the world of sport, in all levels of sport, in the management teams, in the technical teams and also in the refereeing bodies,” said Alegría during his speech at the ceremony.

“For me it is a true honor as Minister of Sports, Education and Vocational Training to participate in this, my first gala, a gala that recognizes and rewards the sport of my country, the athletes, and that is as much as recognizing the talent of Spain” commented the new minister.

Likewise, she described as “an honor” the fact of “being the institutional representative of sport in Spain because I know perfectly well that my country recognizes sport as a state policy.” “Without a doubt, I believe that sport is one of the few spaces that generate feelings as important as encounter and unity, because clearly sport unites us,” she argued.

“And I would dare to say that those feelings generated by your successes are such an important feeling that they make us recognize everything we can achieve as a country. And I assure you that those very positive feelings that you provoke, of course, suit Spain very well. “he said.

“Aware of the importance of sport, the Government of Spain has worked so that sport is considered a right and that allows physical and sporting activity to be practiced from the earliest ages,” Alegría added during his speech.

“If we recognize you, if we reward you, if we admire you, it is also essential that we continue working to also improve the labor rights of professional athletes. And as Ona also said tonight [Carbonell]”It is essential that we continue walking towards that goal,” he warned in this regard.

WITH THE PARIS GAMES ON THE HORIZON

“In this gala we had to look towards the next summer Olympic and Paralympic event in 2024. We are going with the best preparation and of course from the Government of Spain you have all the support and all the resources capable of taking important steps,” stressed the minister.

“In fact, we are in the year in which we have the most important budget in history, there are 1,100 million euros that the Government of Spain has dedicated to sports, or that Team Spain program, or those multi-year subsidies that we have also obtained for considerations,” said Alegría.

In this sense, he spoke of “important steps that we certainly want to continue taking, because we have an ambitious objective, as I tell you, for this summer 2024 that at least has to mean that we equal or exceed those 22 medals that we achieved in Barcelona and that our country continues as a power in Paralympic sport”.

“I have no doubt that we arrived with the best preparation and I am also convinced that at that event in Paris the dreams of all of you will be fulfilled. I have no doubt that being an Olympian generates many sensations and many feelings,” he insisted.

“And I also know perfectly well that, when an athlete brings the flag of his country, he puts in the effort, he puts in the training, but above all he commits to a future based on values of cooperation and above all to peace between all countries,” he remarked. the minister.

“I imagine that being an Olympian is the greatest pride one can feel. But it is so important that you become references for so many future generations. Nothing like sport encompasses values, leisure and excellence at the same time,” Alegría concluded.
