Phil Foden named English Footballers’ Association Player of the Year

MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was voted player of the year by the Professional Footballers’ Association of England on Tuesday, ahead of teammates Erling Haaland and Rodri Hernandez.

The international thus added this individual award to the one awarded to him for the same reason by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) after a season in which he scored 19 goals and provided 9 assists in the Premier League, while in the Champions League he scored five goals and provided three assists.

Foden, 24, added to the dominance of the players in Pep Guardiola’s team who have won this recognition in the last five years, along with Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (2020, 2021) and forward Erling Haaland (2023).

Norwegian and Spanish midfielder Rodri Hernandez completed the symbolic podium of this award, with Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard and Chelsea forwards Cole Palmer, chosen as best young player, and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins rounding out the ‘Top 6’.

Manchester City also took home this award at women’s level in the form of Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw, who was the league’s top scorer by scoring 21 goals and who beat England’s Lauren James (Chelsea) and Norway’s Elisabeth Terland, who moved from Brighton to Manchester United this summer.
