The candidate for re-election in the vote that will be held on June 25 as president of the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports (RFEDI) May Peus advocates a federation of the future that aspires to make Spanish snow sport one of the international leaders.
For May Peus, who will run for re-election for the second time after taking office in 2014, after “sustained growth” for 7 years in high-level results, the RFEDI in the future must continue to support this “improvement” of sports of Spanish winter competition, promoting base sport and offering stability “during all stages of the itinerary to athletes and technicians, in all disciplines”.
In this way, in his opinion, a “worldwide recognition” will be achieved that will benefit the entire Spanish snow ecosystem from the high mountain territory, the services of the snow sector and even the regional federations and clubs.
To do this, it proposes a Strategic Plan until 2030 based on 5 strategic pillars, the first to delve into the sports excellence of elite and grassroots athletes, as well as events, with an eye on the 2030 Pyrenees Games.
In this sense, it has been set to increase the ‘top 3’ per edition in World Cups to 3, increase the federated by 40 percent and the athletes in the RFEDI teams up to 30 percent more.
Another of its pillars is Training and the Winter Sports Value Chain, which must be worked on by strengthening the development plans that are already underway to detect and support talent, promote new federative qualifications such as biathlon and mushing , and the modernization centers for which the Iberdrola and Academia scholarships are already planned.
For him, the pillars of the Snow Ecosystem and the Economic Model are “intimately related”. “In the ecosystem, the current position of Spainsnow must be extended in all sectors of the snow and attract recreational athletes to that federative ecosystem through added value proposals. As for the Economic Model, it is expected to increase the budget through its own resources by 50% percent,” he said in a statement.
Finally, Inclusivity, Sustainability and Solidarity, in which gender equality is a “fundamental piece” with the search for 50/50, increasing the number of women in national teams. On the other hand, achieve climate neutrality already promoted by the International Federation (FIS) and the inclusion of adapted sport following the guidelines of the FIS itself and the International Paralympic Committee (CPI).
A PLAN BASED ON FIVE FIELDS
