Pete Carroll talks about his last meetings with Seahawks ownership.

Pete Carroll talks about his last meetings with Seahawks ownership.

Carroll would talk with Brock and Salk of Seattle Sports the day after every Seahawks game about what went well and poorly for his team.

Friday was Carroll’s last time meeting with Brock and Salk. They talked about his last day as head coach and the talks that led to this change.

Wednesday was “a whirlwind,” Carroll said. “There are so many people to talk to and things going on that we’re trying to do it all the way through and make clear that we cover all the bases and that everyone is on the same page.”

I got up in the thick of the night to make sure everything was okay. It was busy, and there was a lot of feeling, but it was mostly just getting people, coaches, players, guys calling, and other things like that. Being busy and moving around felt good.

Of course, the press meeting was important. After that, everything was very busy and emotional because we had to see so many teachers and people.

Every year when the season is over, Carroll and Seahawks GM John Schneider get together with the team’s owners and decision-makers, led by chair Jody Allen, to talk about the team’s future.

This happened once again this week, but Carroll didn’t leave those talks with a lot of work to do. Instead, he knew he was going to stop coaching the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll talked about his fateful conversation with the Seahawks brass on his last weekly radio show, which was two days after his last game as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

In it, he said that he’s amenable to other head coaching jobs but wasn’t counting on getting one. He also said it was hard to make his football case at the meeting because the people in charge in Seattle were not “football people.”

Carroll did not name the people who were not “football people.” This week, he and the manager of operations John Schneider talked with the team’s owners. As the head of the Paul Allen Trust, Jody Allen was the chair and, in a way, the owner of the Seattle Seahawks.

After her brother and former team owner Paul Allen died in 2018, she took over. At the moment of Paul Allen’s death, it was said that Jody didn’t want to run the team or the Portland Trail Blazers that she also took over, but she’s still in charge after more than five years.

Carroll was fired by the Seahawks on Wednesday, according to a declaration from Allen that made it sound like the choice was mutual and that Carroll would be getting a new advisory role.

Carroll’s words on Wednesday and again on Friday make it sound like the choice wasn’t mutual, as he still wants to be the Seahawks coach.

He said on Friday that he thinks the Seahawks’ owners made their choice based on the media rather than the “football people.”

The Seahawks had a 9-8 record this year and didn’t make the playoffs. Last year, they did make the playoffs with a comparable record. In 10 of Carroll’s 14 years as head coach, they made the playoffs. In his last three seasons, they didn’t make it.

Carroll was the coach of the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2017, during which time they won two NFC titles and a Super Bowl.

He was the coach of USC for nine years and led the Trojans to a share of the national championship in 2003 and their national title the next year.

He is now 72 years old and publicly works as a consultant for the Seahawks. He isn’t saying that he won’t coach another team again. He just doesn’t think it will happen.

According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, Carroll said, “I’ve got plenty of energy, thought, and willingness for it, but I have no idea there’s a place, the right one.”
