Peru-New Zealand, in Barcelona

The Peruvian soccer team will face the New Zealand in Barcelona on June 5 as part of their preparation for the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff match against the winner of the clash between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) announced that the stadium of the Real Club Deportivo Espanyol will be the scene of the match with the All Whites, who will also seek qualification for the World Cup in another playoff against Costa Rica.

“In coordination with the technical command of Professor Ricardo Garecawe have made the decision to hold a friendly match against New Zealand on June 5 at the stadium Spanish from Barcelona. We are facing a strong team that also seeks to reach the World Cup playoffs in the best way,” FPF president Agustín Lozano said in a statement.

The Peruvian team will travel to spain on May 28 and will remain in Barcelona until June 10, when he will travel to Doha to “acclimatize”.

Peru faced New Zealand in the playoff to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. A 0-0 away draw and a 2-0 victory in Lima sealed the Blanquirroja’s qualification for a World Cup after 36 years.

The team led by the Argentine Ricardo Gareca will seek to go to his second consecutive World Cup in the playoff that will be played on June 13 against the winner of the match between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

In Peru Australia is given as a possible rival, a team that the Peruvians have already defeated in the group series of the 2018 World Cup in Russia by 2-0, with goals from André Carrillo and Paolo Guerrero.

Peru agreed to the World Cup playoffs for the second time in a row after occupying fifth position in the South American qualifiers, after Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil, who qualified directly to Qatar.
