The next part of Teddy Bridgewater’s life has already begun. The quarterback for the Detroit Lions is now the head football coach at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where he went to school.

Andy Villamarzo in SBLive Sports broke the news about Bridgewater’s new job on Friday. In this season, Bridgewater, who is 31 years old, was Jared Goff’s backup. The Lions’ season ended on Jan. 28 when they lost 34–31 against the San Francisco 49ers during the NFC Championship Game.

In less than a week, Bridgewater started his new job at the school by interacting with the returning players and staff of the team, according to Andre Williams, the athletic director at Miami Northwestern.

It was the Minnesota Vikings who picked Bridgewater in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 10 years, he played over seven NFL teams. This season, he only played in one play for the Lions: a kneel-down that sealed a win for the Carolina Panthers.

He said in December that he was going to retire at the end of the season so that he could become an educator while enjoying more time with his two sons.

Bridgewater is now enjoying his retirement the way he said he could, and he will undoubtedly be very helpful in the new job. Before Bridgewater, the Bulls were coached by Michael Harris, who had a 4-6 record.

During his time at Miami Northwestern, Bridgewater threw for 6,712 yards and 70 touchdowns.

He took what he learned in high school and used it at Louisville, where he won Big East Rookie Player of the Year and Sugar Bowl MVP when he was a junior.

He hurt his NFL career when he dislocated his knee, tore his ACL, and did other damage before the 2016 season with the Vikings. He threw for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions throughout his career.

After that, Bridgewater got hurt a lot more, and by the end of his NFL career, he had started 65 games. Many of his starts arrived in 2014 and 2015 with the Vikings, in 2020 with Carolina, and in 2021 with the Denver Broncos.

Bridgewater just retired from the NFL after a 10-year career. He has been named head coach at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where he went to school. The team he takes over was 4-6 last season, but he knows them well.

Bridgewater was born and raised in Miami. From 2008 to 2010, he started at quarterback at Miami Northwestern and threw for more than 5,000 yards, and led the Bulls to the state championship.

Before having an excellent college life at Louisville, he became one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.

Keenum was picked by Minnesota with the 32nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft. He played for them for three years before he hurt his knee badly and almost ended his career.

Bridgewater said at the time that the injury made him more thankful for life and taught him not to ever take something for granted. He worked to get back and played for New Orleans, Carolina, and Denver.

He joined the Miami Dolphins in 2022 to assist Tua Tagovailoa as a backup quarterback. He often went to his old school’s Friday evening football games and put on charity events all over South Florida.

Andre Williams, the athletic director at Miami Northwestern, told ESPN that the hire was official. The 31-year-old Bridgewater was a star player at the school before going to Louisville and the NFL. He was also an ongoing presence around the program and had hoped to coach there for a while.

Bridgewater was picked by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. He has played for seven teams, including the Detroit Lions.

He told the newspaper Detroit Free Press in December that he was going to coach high school football after the season was over.

Todd, Williams said, “He’s never left the school.” He worked alongside the young men and taught them about the game during the off-season because he had been in the NFL for 10 years and had played college football before that. Since he’s never quit the organization, we’re just making him the head coach again.

Williams stated Bridgewater first talked about the idea of coaching Miami Nu between five and seven years ago. The school was looking for a new coach after firing Michaelee Harris after a 4-6 season this past fall.
