Pepu Hernández: “Kobe Bryant was an idol of international culture”

MADRID, Jan. 27 (SportsFinding) –

The socialist spokesman in the Madrid City Council, Pepu Hernández, has acknowledged his sadness at the death of former basketball player Kobe Bryant, “an idol of international culture” that has transcended the sport, and has said he has “no news” of his possible appointment as new president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD).

“It's a very sad day, but not only for basketball. It's a global idol. We are all very affected. I feel it especially for his whole family, for his friends and teammates in basketball,” he said upon his arrival at the gala of the Prizes of the Association of the Sports Press of Madrid (APDM).

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the former Los Angeles Lakers player, who died Sunday in a helicopter accident with eight other people. “We have to recognize that sometimes these great sports figures have a global and global impact. We speak not only of an idol of sport, but of an idol of international culture,” he said.

On the other hand, the former Spanish basketball coach refused to talk about the information that suggests that he could be appointed as the new president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD). “Of that I know the same as you, what I have been reading in some news that have been appearing. I have no other news,” he concluded.
