Pepe Martí wins the Spanish F3 GP: “I am very happy with the first victory, and at home”

Fernando Alonso’s pupil appreciates the Asturian’s advice: “Your support is exactly what I need”

BARCELONA, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 3 driver Pepe Martí (Campos Racing) assured that he was “very happy” with the victory in the Barcelona F3 World Cup, the first on a Sunday after two victories prior to the sprint, and thanked the advice he receives from his mentor, Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso.

Speaking to Europa Press, after winning the race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, he assured that he was “very happy”. “It’s the first victory at home, the first victory on a Sunday and I’m super happy,” he said.

Also, he hopes it will be a turning point to win more races. “It is a result that I hope will change this year’s trend a bit and we will be able to fight for more victories on Sunday and score those important points for the championship,” he said.

“The one in Monaco (sprint) and this are two very important victories, but beyond that, I think we are already putting in very good performances throughout the year, including the comeback in Australia, even if we add few points,” he added. .

After this victory, Pepe Martí (Campos) is second in the F3 Championship, with 68 points and 24 points behind the leader Gabriel Bortoleto (Trident). The one from Sabadell won the Sprint races on Saturday in Sakhir and Monaco, and the one from Barcelona is the first victorai in a ‘Feature Race’ on Sunday.

“I am super happy with the result, super happy with how the team is working and little by little getting closer to the championship leader,” reiterated Martí, who thanked the fans for their support. “On the track you don’t realize it, you are very focused, but once I crossed the finish line and I saw everyone on their feet, the truth is that it was unique, something very special,” he acknowledged.

GRATEFUL PUPIL OF FERNANDO ALONSO

Regarding the support of Fernando Alonso, two-time Formula 1 world champion and currently fighting with his Aston Martin for that ’33rd’ victory in his career, he assured that it is “just what he needs” to receive from his mentor, who congratulated him this Sunday on the track for his victory.

“We did a simulator with Fernando before coming here and then, yesterday, he did not tell me directly but I looked at almost all the outings he has done here in Barcelona to know a little bit about what to do. Whenever I have a question, I ask him and I always is there to answer it, and that support is exactly what I need and it is very special that it comes from someone who is still my idol,” he said.
