Pepe Castro reiterates going “to the end” in the ‘Negreira case’ because “Spanish football is in question”

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Sevilla, José Castro, reiterated this Wednesday the need to go “to the end” in the investigations into the controversial ‘Negreira case’ because “Spanish football is in question”, while, on the other hand, he celebrated the improvement of a team that must certify its pass to the round of 16 of the Europa League 2022-2023.

“We were the first to complain and to demand an investigation to the end. Not only because of Sevilla, but because Spanish football is in question because of this. Later, all the other clubs have demanded that it go to the end because the Spanish football cannot allow this to happen,” Castro warned in statements to the media in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and collected on the club’s website.

The leader stressed that “there is no type of populism” in these actions because they consider that what is happening “is something very serious.” “It should not happen that a practicing manager receives money from any club, we cannot allow this to happen, whoever it is. In football we all play a lot and there are fans who are owed respect, you have to go as far as the end on such a serious issue”, he remarked.

On the other hand, the Sevilla leader acknowledged feeling somewhat relieved by the team’s improvement in recent weeks. “He is better, there is more confidence and it is also a numerical question, in the first 14 games we got eleven points and now we have 14 in the last eight”, he pointed out.

“But it is true that we need to get out of there to a quieter area to continue adding. The objective is to go step by step, find a quieter area and we will see what the team is capable of, but I am confident because it is showing it in play and in points. I remain confident in the team and in the coach to score more points very soon”, added Castro.

The president of Sevilla also did not hide how “beautiful” it was to play this Thursday in Eindhoven, where they won their first UEFA Cup in 2006 and where they were “so happy”. “Since that day, we have achieved a place in Europe. Every Sevilla player who is over 30 years old could not think that day of all the good things that would come later,” he stated.

“We have had a good result in the first leg and we come here to try to continue in our favorite tournament, but the tie is not resolved. We have a result that should give us a place, but PSV is a tough and strong team, and it would be a mistake to think that we have it done. You have to play a serious game, as if we didn’t have an advantage”, warned the leader.

Finally, he showed some complaint about the arbitration last Sunday in Vallecas where he believes that Rayo Vallecano “could have been sent off two or three players in very ugly tackles, being the same VAR referee who sent off two Sevilla players against Real Sociedad in similar plays”.

“I have to complain because it’s reality, but the important thing is that you also have to win on the field, score more goals than your opponent and be better. What we want is for the referees to be fair and deliver justice in the same way” , sentenced Castro.
