Pep discards Agüero against Madrid: “I think it will not be possible”

Kun Aguero He has been out for a month and a week since he was injured against Burnley, in the second game after the coronavirus stoppage. The Argentine forward was operated on the left knee in Barcelona, like every player in the Manchester City suffering from a serious injury. The Kun has been there ever since, forgetting the bad weather in the north of England and taking refuge in a central hotel in the city, while finalizes his recovery with the goal set at Real Madrid.

A goal that in the words of Pep Guardiola, it is unattainable: “No, I think it will not be possible”, acknowledged the Catalan coach at the end of the last game of the Premier League. If nothing changes in your recovery, Agüero will not be available to receive Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Despite having missed the last days, Agüero has surpassed twenty goals again this season (he has 23 in total, 16 in the Premier), the fifth consecutive year in which he does so (26 in 2015/15, 24 in 2015/16, 20 in 2016/17, 21 in 2017/18 and 20 in 2018/19).

The Argentine winger remains the offensive benchmark for Manchester City, although this year he has lagged behind Sterling, with 30 goals, who has completed his best campaign since coming from Liverpool. Next on the list is Gabriel Jesús, who has 22 goals … four of them after Agüero's injury.

The Manchester City squad have enjoyed two days of vacation this week –Wednesday and Thursday, which many took the opportunity to fly out of the United Kingdom and take advantage of the good weather- just before their last Premier League game, without significance, and they will no longer rest to prepare the duel against the Whites.

All forces are already focused on the tie against Real Madrid. In the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, Guardiola surprised everyone with his offensive line: he put Bernardo Silva as false nine, with Gabriel Jesús on the left and Mahrez on the right. Neither Agüero nor Silva disputed for a minute, quite a surprise in a game like this, while Sterling entered in the second half.

Without further doubts in their squad, and having run out of the Premier League and the FA Cup – in February they won the League Cup – Manchester City has its sights set on the Champions League. Since Pellegrini's departure, they have never reached the semifinals again.
