Peñarroya departs from Valencia Basket

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Coach Joan Peñarroya has left Valencia Basket after a season at the helm of the ‘taronja’ team, the Valencian club confirmed this Tuesday, and could start a new stage at the helm of Bitci Baskonia.

“Coach Joan Peñarroya will not continue his professional relationship with Valencia Basket once the contract season for which the Catalan coach had promised to lead our first men’s team has ended. Valencia Basket Club would like to thank Joan for his work during this season and wishes him the best in his personal and sporting future”, announced the ‘taronja’ entity.

Peñarroya arrived at Valencia Basket from Hereda San Pablo Burgos in the summer of 2021 to take charge of the first team. In total, he has directed 58 games, with a balance of 38 wins and 20 losses.

Peñarroya wanted to say goodbye in a letter from the fans. “A year ago I arrived excited and grateful for the opportunity to become part of this great institution and now that it’s time to say goodbye, I’m even more grateful and proud of having been one of the ‘taronja’ family,” he said.

“It has been a season full of setbacks from the beginning that culminated in the worst way with Martin’s injury on the last day. I am aware that in the end we have not reached the goals we wanted, but I am proud of how we have all faced and worked for overcoming so much difficulty,” he continued.

In addition, he thanked his coaching staff, the players and all the club’s workers for their “involvement, effort and treatment”, and the media for “the treatment and respect received”. “Special mention to our fans, who have always been with the team. Receiving so many personal expressions of affection makes me indebted. I have no doubt that under the protection of D. Juan Roig this is a solid and exciting project that will continue to give many joys. My best wishes to all, “he concluded.

Now, Peñarroya could start a new adventure at Bitci Baskonia, precisely the team that eliminated the ‘taronjas’ in the ‘Playoffs’ for the Endesa League title.
