The president arrived on Wednesday afternoon in Cerler, a town near the Aramón ski resort, with the intention of practicing winter sports, skiing and disconnecting before returning to Madrid on December 30.

However, the tranquility of these winter getaways contrasts with the zeal that surrounds their movements. On this occasion, his bodyguards have prevented photojournalists from capturing images of the president during his stay in the area. Moncloa has stressed that the trip has a strictly private nature, which is why it has avoided providing detailed information about its activities or trips in the valley.

This policy of discretion has marked Sánchez’s previous visits to the area. It is not the first time that the president and his family have chosen Benasque as a vacation destination. He was already there in 2014, 2015 and 2017, and returned in 2018 to spend New Year’s Eve in a hotel in Cerler, also accompanied by his two daughters. On all these occasions, the president has shown his appreciation for the landscapes of the Pyrenees and his interest in winter sports, especially skiing and snowboarding.

A white postcard without protagonists

The climate in the Aragonese Pyrenees is ideal for lovers of white sports. Yesterday, the Cerler resort offered 19 open slopes, 11 lifts in operation and up to 18 skiable kilometers, with snow depths ranging between 20 and 50 centimeters. The conditions, although not exceptional, have allowed skiers to enjoy hard quality snow.

Meanwhile, the rest of the resorts in the Aragonese Pyrenees, such as Formigal-Panticosa or the joint domain of Candanchú-Astún, have presented similar figures, contributing to a hotel occupancy that exceeds 80% on these dates. However, the president’s presence has gone practically unnoticed among tourists, due to the security measures and the information shield surrounding his visit.

Silence in the snow

At a time when the socialist leader seeks to regain strength after a politically intense year, his Pyrenean getaway reflects the delicate balance between privacy and public exposure. Although the media and the curious have tried to capture images of the president in his vacation surroundings, the tight control of the security team has frustrated any attempt to obtain a snapshot that would break the anonymity of this Christmas vacation.

What remains, in the end, is a picture of the Aragonese mountains, a landscape where calm seems to be non-negotiable. Pedro Sánchez has found, once again, a white refuge where he can slide away from the noise of politics, while the echo of the Cerler slopes is limited to the crunch of skis on the snow.
