Pedro Sánchez goes to the funeral home after the Council of Ministers to say goodbye to Marisa Paredes

The death of Marisa Paredes, one of the great ladies of Spanish cinema, has caused a profound shock in the cultural world and among those close to her. The Madrid actress, known for her talent, charisma and commitment, was in full professional activity, with several projects underway, when a sudden heart failure ended her life.

The first to arrive at the San Isidro funeral home, where Paredes’ mortal remains are being laid to rest, was his widower, Chema Pradowho confirmed the cause of death and thanked the expressions of affection received. Later, it was presented Fernando Méndez-Leitecurrent director of the Film Academy, who wanted to honor the memory of who was president of this institution between 2000 and 2003. Let us remember that Marisa Paredes left an indelible mark on Spanish cinema, being awarded the National Cinematography Award in 1996 and the Goya of Honor in 2018.

Throughout the day, the funeral home was filled with prominent figures from culture and cinema who came to say goodbye to this legend. Among the first to arrive was the Basque actor Unax Ugaldewho shared filming with Paredes in Cold Winter Sun.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, went to the funeral home after finishing the Council of Ministers, a gesture that underlines the cultural relevance of Marisa Paredes in Spain.

In the afternoon, the actress’s only daughter, María Isasi-Isasmendi, visibly affected, came out to address the media. “My mother was a goddess and belonged to everyone,” he declared with emotion, while thanking the expressions of affection received: “She belongs to everyone, she is yours and will always be yours. Tomorrow she will be where she had to be, in her Theater Spanish, in the Plaza de Santa Ana where he was born”.

María also tenderly remembered the last time she saw her mother, last Sunday, when Marisa Paredes attended a performance of Bohemian lightsa work in which his daughter works.

The farewell to Marisa Paredes has not only become a moment of mourning, but also a collective tribute to one of the most loved and respected figures of Spanish culture. Tomorrow, his legacy will be honored at the Teatro Español, a place that symbolizes the artistic heart of Madrid and the eternal love that the public will always profess for him.
