Pedro Sánchez, Begoña Gómez, Illa and his wife take selfies during their holidays in Lanzarote

Pedro Sanchez, Begoña Gomez and the new president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, Together with his wife, they strolled this Saturday through a market in Lanzarote, where the head of the Executive is spending a few days of vacation with his family. They were all dressed in sportswear, with comfortable clothes, as is logical. The socialist leader and his wife arrived on the Canary Island last Monday and this Friday they were joined by Marta Struch and her husband, in his first days of rest after being sworn in as President of Catalonia on August 8 after long negotiations with Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC).

It is becoming customary for the head of the Executive to choose La Mareta residence for part of his holidays. Last year this digital newspaper reported his presence. By the way, the State has spent a considerable amount of money on it because important works have been carried out on it. The previous socialist president, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, also decided to use as a summer vacation spot the house given by King Hussein of Jordan to the Spanish King Emeritus, Juan Carlos I Thus, just like the Doñana residence, it belongs to the National Heritage. La Mareta is located in a privileged enclave, on the edge of the Atlantic, in the tourist and residential area of Costa Teguise. Various presidents of the Spanish Government have stayed there, as well as international leaders such as the German chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder.

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, hopes that during his stay Pedro Sánchez will have the opportunity to observe what is happening up close in the autonomous community and can discuss with local leaders the situation the Archipelago is experiencing with immigrant minors in the face of a modification of the Immigration Law that remains stalled by disputes between the PSOE and the Popular Party (PP).

The Traditional Market of Haría

The President of the Government of Spain has returned this summer after making the same plan in 2023. It is the second time that he has chosen these days of August to walk through the main square of the northern town and its traditional market. As expected, both the residents of Haría and the numerous tourists who were there this Saturday were surprised to find themselves face to face with the president and his wife, as well as Salvador Illa. They were all interested in the products that the northern town offers. As he did last year, Sánchez allowed himself to be photographed by the citizens who wanted to take a selfie with him and he chatted with them. The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba (from Nueva Canarias), gave them sweet wine from the Malpaíso de la tierra winery, Montaña cheese and a book.
