Former coach Pedro Ferrándiz, the most successful Spanish coach and legend of the Real Madrid benches, has died this Thursday at the age of 93, as confirmed by the white entity.

“Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Pedro Ferrándiz, an honorary member of Real Madrid and one of the greatest legends of our club and of world basketball,” he explained in a statement.

Pedro Ferrándiz managed the Madrid team for 13 seasons, in various stages between 1959 and 1975, in which he won four European Cups, 12 Leagues and 11 Spanish Cups, directing the team in 490 games. In addition, he continues to be the coach who has won the most Leagues and Cups in Spain.

Pedro Ferrándiz’s name is listed in the ‘Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’, in the FIBA ​​Hall of Fame and also in the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame. Ferrándiz was also coach of the Spanish national team between 1964 and 1965.

Among the recognitions and merits received at a national and international level, the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sports Merit and the Collar of the Olympic Order stand out, among others.
