Pedri: “Winning a Ballon d’Or would be a real madness”

MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

FC Barcelona midfielder Pedro González ‘Pedri’ stated that he has never set personal challenges in his career, although he admitted that winning a Ballon d’Or would be “real madness” after a bittersweet course due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and injuries, and the title in LaLiga Santander.

“On a personal level, I’ve never set myself challenges, but I always try to improve day by day and winning something like a Ballon d’Or would be a real madness, but I don’t set it as an objective”, he assessed in his presentation as the new ambassador of the company OK Mobility.

The man from Tenerife, recent LaLiga Santander champion with FC Barcelona, wants to win “everything he can” both with his club and with the national team and is increasingly ambitious. “I’ve enjoyed all the titles I’ve won, both the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey and I hope I have the chance to win another one this year,” he commented.

Since his arrival in Las Palmas, injuries have been a part of his career, even suffering one in his first game, but even so, the Canarian makes the best of these situations. “Injuries in football teach you many things, above all to improve every day and know how to come back stronger to be better,” he declared.

The Barça footballer opened up about what he has achieved, highlighting among the most important moments of his career the individual awards he has received for his great performances. “I’ve been able to win a Kopa award and a Golden Boy, which I think are trophies that not everyone has a chance to win,” he explained.

Pedri highlighted the difference between how young people get into football now and the advantage they have over those who did it a few years ago. “You can see that people today are more prepared, especially psychologically. I think that from a young age they are taught to compete and play as they know how, regardless of whether they are playing in the backyard or in front of 80,000 people,” he concluded.
