Paula López and Lucía Rodríguez advance to the round of 16 at the Madrid Spain Masters badminton

MADRID, 26 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Madrid Spain Masters by Iberdrola badminton, which began this Tuesday at the Gallur Municipal Sports Center, stood out in a Spanish key with the classification of Paula López and Lucía Rodríguez for the round of 16 in the women’s doubles draw, thanks to their victory by 21-11 and 21-17 against the Germans Julia Meyer and Leona Michalski.

Thus, the first day in the Los Cármenes neighborhood saw the previous rounds. Although there were three Spaniards in the men’s individual draw, none of them reached the final. Álvaro Vázquez first won 23-21 and 21-16 against the Italian Giovanni Toti, but then fell 21-18, 16-21 and 21-12 against the Japanese Koo Takahashi. Meanwhile, Álvaro Leal and Kike Peñalver failed in their respective debuts against the Indian Sameer Verma (21-9 and 21-12) and the Indonesian Alwi Farhan (21-13 and 21-11).

On the other hand, Clara Azurmendi did surpass her only previous one in the women’s singles draw by beating Ireland’s Rachael Darragh 21-11 and 21-14. Thus, the San Sebastian native will play this Wednesday in the round of 32 against the Japanese Natsuki Nidaira.

Regarding the men’s doubles, the Spanish Jacobo Fernández and Daniel Franco did not overcome the first duel of the qualifying round, defeated by the Dutch Ties van der Lecq and Brian Wassink (21-14 and 21-11). And already in the round of 32 of the main draw, Rubén García and Carlos Piris fell to the Chinese Bo Yang Chen and Yang Liu (21-18 and 21-17).

The aforementioned victory of Paula López and Lucía Rodríguez was worth a date in their next match with the Bulgarian sisters Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva, who in their first match of the tournament defeated the Danish Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai 24-22 and 21-13 Surrow.

Finally, in the run-up to the mixed doubles, the Spanish fans smiled after seeing Jacobo Fernández and Paula López defeat the Scots Adam Pringle and Rachel Andrew 21-16, 15-21 and 21-17. However, hosts Rodrigo Sanjurjo and Nikol Carulla lost their debut 21-14 and 21-7 against Taiwanese Li-Wei Po and Ching Hui Chang.
