Paula Badosa surpasses her premiere in Charleston

MADRID, 4 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa started the clay court tour on the right foot and qualified this Tuesday for the second round of the tournament in Charleston (United States), while Bernabé Zapata and Roberto Carballés advanced respectively in Estoril (Portugal) and Marrakech (Morocco). ).

The Catalan player, seeded twelfth in the event, was firm in her debut and barely gave Egyptian Mayar Sherif any options, whom she defeated in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 after more than an hour and a half of play .

Badosa had more work in the first round, where although he started breaking and went up 4-1, he saw how his rival reacted to go up 4-3. There the Spaniard recovered and chained seven games in a row to close the first set and leave the second set to be seen.

In addition, her compatriot Rosa Vicens, who had accessed the main draw from the previous phase, could not accompany her to the second round after falling clearly against the American Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-1.

On the other hand, in the ATP tournaments on red clay in Estoril and Marrakech, the good news for the ‘Armada’ came from Valencia’s Bernabé Zapata and Roberto Carballés from Tenerife, who made it past the first round.

In the Portuguese tournament, Zapata defeated the local Hugo Rocha, classified from the previous phase, whom he clearly beat 6-4, 6-2 to meet the Polish Hubert Hurckaz, second seeded. Instead, Albert Ramos said goodbye to the Austrian Jurij Rodionov in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).

In the Moroccan event, Carballés also advanced to the second round after defeating American Maxime Cressy, fifth seed, in a tough match of almost two hours and 20 minutes. The man from Tenerife came from behind to finally win 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1 and now he will face the Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov.

Less lucky was the Valencian tennis player Pedro Martínez, who could not beat the Russian Pavel Kotov, winner in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 7-6), although the Spaniard had a serve with 6-5 in the third to take the ticket to the second round.
