Paula Badosa says goodbye to Madrid

MADRID, 1 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa said goodbye this Monday to the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth Masters 1,000 and WTA 1,000 of the season and which is played on clay, after losing to the Greek Maria Sakkari (6-4, 6-4), a result that leaves the women’s team of the Madrid competition without Spanish.

The Catalan, current number 42 in the world, was unable to break her opponent’s serve in the hour and 28 minutes that the duel lasted on the Manolo Santana court of the Caja Mágica.

The one from Begur wasted two ‘break’ balls in the fourth game and could not do anything to prevent the number nine in the WTA ranking from breaking her serve in the seventh, enough to close the first set at the second opportunity.

Already in the second set, Sakkari started with a break that allowed him to dominate the set and end the match without facing any break point against him. Badosa will remain in Madrid to try to move forward in the doubles draw with the American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
