Patricia García presents her candidacy for the presidency of the FER

“My purpose has always been and will be to serve rugby with integrity, respect, passion and dedication,” says the former captain of the ‘Leonas’

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former Spanish rugby international Patricia García Rodríguez will present this Thursday, starting at 12:00, her candidacy for the presidency of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER), whose elections will be held on July 30, in the Sala Samaranch of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid.

“My purpose has always been and will be to serve rugby with integrity, with respect, with passion and dedication. With the intention of continuing to contribute the most to this sport, I have decided to step forward and propose my candidacy for the Presidency of the FER,” he announced on his personal Twitter account.

Patricia García’s candidacy aims to overcome these “difficult moments” that Spanish rugby is experiencing and because after the resignation of Alfonso Feijoo on July 2, the “need to lead a change has accelerated”.

“That is why Patricia García has decided to take a step forward to offer herself to assume this great responsibility, with the respect and good work that have characterized her entire sports and professional career on and off the field,” she said in a statement. .

For Patricia García’s team, Spanish rugby needs a “coherent, innovative, strategic proposal with a clear purpose of bringing regenerative change to this sport”. “But it also needs to be hopeful, to restore hope and the desire to fight together in the right direction,” she added.

To do this, Patricia García proposes a mixture of “pragmatism” and “idealism” to lead the future of Spanish rugby with passion and determination with a multidisciplinary team “solid, experienced and eager to make a difference”.

With a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the INEF in Madrid and a Master’s in High Performance Sports from the COE, García is El Escorial’s Favorite Daughter, has founded the NGO Rugby Libre and on May 23 announced her retirement. She was capped 342 times with Spain, with whom she played in the 2016 Rio Olympics and won nine European titles with the “Leonas” in her 14-year career.

ELECTORAL PROCESS

The elections for the presidency of the FER will be held on July 30, after the resignation last Saturday of former president Alfonso Feijoo and the dissolution of its Board of Directors this Monday.

The term for the presentation of candidates for the presidency of the FER will end on Thursday, July 14, at 8:00 p.m. A day later, on Friday the 15th, the candidates will be announced and a claim period will open until Tuesday the 19th, at 2:00 p.m.

The General Electoral Assembly will elect the new president of the FER for the next two years, until the 2024 Paris Olympics.

As will be remembered, Alfoso Feijoo announced his resignation after learning of the World Rugby sanction against Spain, and that left the XV del León out of the 2023 World Cup due to the improper alignment of the South African Gavin van der Berg.
