Patri Guijarro: “The best thing we can do against England is to have the ball”

“We’re not angry, we’re looking forward to it, it’s a quarter-final”

MADRID, 19 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The footballer of the Spanish team Patri Guijarro insisted on Tuesday that against England, in the quarterfinals of the European Championship, they do not have to adapt to the English game, but “have the ball”, in a match that they face “convinced” that they can beat “anyone” and “being Spain”.

“I don’t think we have to adapt to their game, and we won’t. The best thing will be to play our game, have the ball, which will be our best defense. The best thing we can do is have the ball against England,” the midfielder said in the press conference prior to the crucial duel against the English on Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) for a spot in the tournament semifinals.

The FC Barcelona player, a fundamental pillar of the national team’s midfield, assured that the team is not “angry” after the group stage -with that setback against Germany and the pass on the last matchday against Denmark-, but that it has “desire”. “It’s a quarterfinal, the stadium will be full and anyone would love to play tomorrow. We have that desire, we don’t stop talking about it, we want the moment to come, we feel that way,” she explained.

In addition, he sent a message to the fans, which he supports unceasingly, as is extracted from the more than 1.6 million viewers of the Denmark-Spain match. “It will be a good game, one of the best there can be in women’s football right now. If you like football, it’s a game to watch closely. It’s important that Spain is with us and supports us,” he asked.

“We like that there are people in the stadium and it motivates us that they are the hostess. It can also motivate them, we will play with that. That there are fans in a stadium motivates us and we always look for the good side”, he said about the pressure that could suppose the fans from the stands, when the full is touched with the majority of followers supporting England.

Finally, Guijarro valued the label of favorites with which they arrived at the tournament, emphasizing that “internally” they have always had the “same mentality, whether or not they put on that label.” “We are eager to win and convinced that we can beat anyone and being Spain,” said the soccer player, before recalling the match against the United States in the last World Cup, when the team was eliminated, highlighting the “brutal” physical change of the template. “We are not the same Spain, we arrived at another point, trusting us,” she sentenced.
