Párrizas stands up but falls to Rogers in Indian Wells

The Spanish tennis player Nuria Párrizas could not overcome the first round of the Indian Wells Masters 1,000 despite demonstrating a great capacity for resistance against a tough rival like the American Shelby Rogers. Párrizas fell to Rogers 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3) after almost three hours of play.

The meeting did not start well for the Granada woman who saw how Rogers broke serve three times in a row to win the first set 6-1 in just 25 minutes. However, far from giving up, Párrizas showed his claw in the second set, as he showed by breaking Rogers’ serve in the fifth game. Despite the fast counterbreak of the American, who had to make strong defenses to save her serves, Párrizas got another break in the eleventh game to serve out the third set point 7-5 and take the match to the third set after an hour and 22 minutes of battle in the set.

In the third set, a very plugged-in Párrizas managed to break Rogers’ first two serves and not fail with his service to get 4-0 in favor. However, Párrizas could not take advantage of his serve to close the match with 5-2 and 5-4 in favor. and that gave wings to Rogers, who managed to force a tie-break in which, in the end, she was more effective to close the match 7-6 (3) and move on to the second round, where she will face the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.

Osaka and Anisimova pass, Kostyuk gets excited for Ukraine and Badosa already has a rival

This Thursday’s day also left us with the entry into action of numerous figures such as the American Amanda Anisimova, who did not fail in her debut against her compatriot Emma Navarro with a double 6-2 and will now face a less demanding rival in the second round: the Canadian Leylah Fernández, recently champion in the Monterrey tournament.

Japan’s Naomi Osaka went through more trouble in her debut. On her return to competition after her elimination in the third round of the Australian Open (precisely against the aforementioned Anisimova), the Japanese had to come from behind against the American Sloane Stephens to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 53 minutes. Osaka, who is trying to recover her smile after a difficult year, will now face the Russian Veronika Kudermetova.

The Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and the Belgian Maryna Zanevska left us the longest match of the day in the women’s draw with victory for the Ukrainian 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6) and 7-5 after three hours and nine minutes of a match that ended with Kostyuk, who played in a kit with the colors of Ukraine, was visibly emotional and had to be hugged by her rival at the end of the match.

Paula Badosa’s first rival has also come out of this Thursday’s day in his title defense at Indian Wells. The Spanish will debut in the tournament against the Czech Tereza Martincova, who easily beat the British Heather Watson in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
