Paris Masters 2020: players, favorites and absences

Paris-Bercy ends the Masters 1,000 season. The French capital will host one of the last events on the world calendar, where they will be big stars of the ATP ranking that will make up for several important absences. Next we review the names to consider for the title in Paris.

Rafael Nadal

The Balearic arrives in Paris as the first seed of the tournament. After winning Roland Garros for the 13th time he is back in great form, although he has never been able to lift the title on this stage. The type of track, fast and indoor, is the one that benefits his game the least, but this year he is at full capacity and without injuries to face the challenge.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The Greek is one of the most dangerous players on the circuit on this type of track. Not for nothing is the reigning champion of the Masters Cup in London, also indoors. This year he has only one title, in Marseille, and curiously it was also on hard surface and indoors. He will be the seed number 2 of the tournament.

Alexander Zverev

The same thing happens to the German as to Tsitsipas, and that is that his game is greatly enhanced on a type of track like Paris. He also won the Masters Cup in indoor conditions in 2018. He's a fearsome punch and if he is fine in this aspect he will have an almost unstoppable weapon for his rivals. He comes from winning the title in Cologne.

Andrey Rublev

The Russian is the second most successful player this season, behind only Novak Djokovic. Despite being a very complete tennis player and enjoying titles both on land, as a hard surface and an indoor court, it is in the latter scenario where he is best handled. Rublev has a great physique that allows him to fight from the back of the track, although both his drive and backhand are very consistent.

Alternatives

Names like those of David Goffin, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Karen Khachanov (champion here in 2018), Daniil Medvedev or Diego schwartzman they will have to be taken into account in the face of the title if they are capable of defeating the big favorites.

Absences

The big absentees will be three, but very important for the final draw of the tournament. Roger Federer He will not be there because he is still immersed in his recovery after undergoing two knee operations that left him out of the entire season. For its part, Novak Djokovic will not defend his title of champion as he decided to give up Paris to prepare for the London Masters Final with maximum guarantees, while Dominic Thiem it caused a last-minute drop also due to calendar reasons. Finally, another of the tennis players who occupies privileged positions in the ranking and who will not be in Paris will be Roberto Bautista, who recently ended the season after sustaining an elbow injury.
