Paret-Peintre wins at Lago Laceno and Andreas Leknessund, second, is the new leader of the Giro

MADRID, 9 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The cyclist Aurélien Paret-Peintre (AG2R Citroën Team) won the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia on Tuesday, held between Venosa and Lago Laceno over 175 kilometers, in a one-on-one with his breakaway partner Andreas Leknessund (Team DSM), who He will be the new leader of the ‘Corsa Rosa’ to the detriment of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step), who arrived with the bulk of the peloton.

The stage was marked by a breakaway of seven members, formed in the middle of the day, which came to enjoy almost 5 minutes of margin over the peloton. On steep terrain, with three 2nd category climbs, the favorites did not budge and gave room to escape, in a decision that could last as they did not push and the large group entered 2 minutes behind.

And it is that two of the men from that break were the strongest and those who competed in the stage, which went to the Frenchman Paret-Peintre –in his third professional victory and the most prestigious–. But Leknessund was fighting more for something else, and he achieved it; the ‘pink jersey’. The Norwegian, 23 years old, and ‘Top 30’ in the last Tour de France, is the new leader and has the will to continue a few days in pink.
