Paolini will challenge Swiatek in the Roland Garros final

MADRID, 6 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini beat the Russian Mirra Andreeva this Thursday 6-3 and 6-1 and has qualified for the final of the Roland Garros tournament, the second ‘Grand Slam’ of the season and where she will now fight for the title against the Polish Iga Swiatek, executioner of the American Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff by 6-2 and 6-4.

The semifinal round opened on the clay of Paris (France) with the duel between Swiatek and Gauff, respective numbers 1 and 3 in the world ranking. And as soon as she started, the Pole broke her opponent’s serve to put the ball in the middle (2-0), saving the few break opportunities that Gauff had in her favor.

Not in vain, the Central European broke again in the fifth game (4-1) and left the first set on track, which was won in just over half an hour. The double lasted the next set, with Gauff incisive on her parallel backhand shots; In fact, the Atlanta player broke her opponent’s serve in the fourth game (1-3) and seemed full of spirit.

However, the current world No. 1 returned the break immediately and scored the seventh blank game (4-3); and he also did it to the rest, damaging Gauff’s ability to resist. Although the American saved two match points on her subsequent serve turn, she completely succumbed in the tenth game (6-4).

Then the ‘semi’ between the two great sensations of this year took place on the Philippe Chatrier Court. And the first games predicted a long and fun fight, with Paolini breaking Andreeva’s serve in the fourth game (3-1). The next time, the young Russian enjoyed a 15-40 and then a 40-Advantage, but she was left with the job half done.

She also didn’t finish the task in the seventh, despite having two more balls to break the Italian’s serve, who closed the opening set in her favor at the first opportunity. Looking ahead to the second set, Paolini did not waste a 0-40 in the third game, she consolidated this break and channeled the victory, as Andreeva lowered her arms until she fell in an hour and a quarter.
