Panenka, discharged from the hospital after Covid-19

The mythical Antonin Panenka was released from the hospital where he was being treated after becoming infected with Covid-19. This was announced by his son, Tomas Panenka, this Wednesday.

“I picked up my dad from the hospital at 11 this morning and brought him home,” said Tomas Panenka in statements to the website of Bohemians, the Prague club where the famous midfielder played and of which he is honorary president.

Panenka, 71, was admitted to the intensive care unit in serious condition last week after testing positive for coronavirus. “His tests are now negative. He still has pneumonia, but the doctors say he no longer needs to stay in the hospital, ”added the son of the Czech and world football legend.

Panenka rose to fame by winning Euro 1976 with Czechoslovakia. It was in the final against Germany where he scored the famous decisive penalty with a ball stuck in the center of the goal, a way to deliver the maximum penalties that bears his name. The Czechoslovak team beat Germany on penalties (5-3 after 2-2) and Panenka transformed the one that gave the victory and the title to his team.
