Pachuca assaults the leadership of the Mexican League

The Tuzos de Pachuca led by Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada defeated the Tigres 2-1 on Thursday and took the lead in the Mexican Clausura tournament.

In Pachuca, central Mexico, Víctor Guzmán scored twice for the locals and Colombian Luis Quiñones did it for the visitors.

The first half of the duel, pending the ninth day, was of alternating domain, with both teams looking for the opposite goal and several arrivals in the area by both teams.

French Florian Thauvin crashed a ball into the post, a pass from his compatriot André Pierre Gignac, who shortly after was close to the goal, but finished off from the outside.

For Pachuca, Kevin Álvarez sent a ball to the crossbar and Guzmán had a couple of scoring opportunities. Both lacked forcefulness.

For the second part, the two cadres insisted on offending; in minute 55 Guzmán accepted a service from Álvarez, took advantage of the poor record of the Tigres and converted with his left foot.

The felines went for the tie, which caused an increase in the pace of the match. In the 65th minute, Quiñones shook off the mark and rescued the equalizer, but Almada’s team went for more and in the 85th minute he secured the victory with an elegant left-footed goal from a pass from the Argentine Nicolás Ibáñez.

Pachuca jumped to first place with nine wins, one draw, two losses and 28 points, two more than Tigres, who fell to second place.
