MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish badminton player Pablo Abián has lost in the semifinals of the Dutch Open, which is played at the Topsportcentrum in Almere (Netherlands), against Singaporean Kean Yew Loh (21-6, 21-15).
The bilbilitanian had no options in his duel against the number 41 in the world ranking, which dominated from start to finish and closed the contest in 32 minutes of play.
Before, Abián had overcome the first round against the Danish Kim (21-14 and 21-12) before achieving two memorable comebacks: in the round of 16 against the Czech Jan Louda (18-21, 21-12 and 21-19) and in the quarterfinals against the Finn Kalle Koljonen, recent bronze medalist of the European Championship (18-21, 21-11 and 12-21).
Seven Spanish representatives participated during the Dutch Open, accompanied by coach Eduardo Herrero ‘Kopi’, as well as referee Abel García Vicente. Five of the seven athletes began their participation in the preliminary phase: Álvaro Vázquez, Ernesto Baschwitz, Carlos Piris, Álex Alcalá and Joan Monroy took to the Topsportcentrum track, but none of them managed to get into the main draw.
In this phase, Kike Peñalver and Pablo Abián entered into action, in addition to the doubles Piris-Monroy and Alcalá-Vázquez. Of them, only Abián managed to overcome the first phase, since Peñalver yielded to the Danish Holm; Piris and Monroy fell to the Malaysians Azman and Wong; and Alcalá and Vázquez lost to Belgians Golinski and Van Nieuwkerke.
