‘On Ice for Peace’ raises 6,000 euros to help Ukraine through World Central Kitchen

The Olympic ice dance skater Sara Hurtado has promoted this action together with the FDJ on April 2 and 3 in Madrid

Almost 1,000 people have skated last weekend, on April 1 and 2, at the Madrid Ice Palace to support the initiative ‘On Ice for Peace’ promoted by the Olympic figure skater Sara Hurtado, who has raised 6,000 euros for help Ukrainian refugees through the NGO World Central Kitchen.

This participation, together with the amount collected from the sale of material related to the activity and the donations made through row zero, have added the 6,000 euros that will go to the NGO headed by the chef José Andrés, who will distribute food and food at authorized posts at the borders.

The work of this NGO also extends to care for people who arrive at the authorized centers in Spain in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid), Barcelona, ​​Alicante, Málaga and Valencia.

The Olympic ice dance skater Sara Hurtado, who has lived in Moscow for the last five years, has promoted this charitable initiative together with the Fundación Deporte Joven and the Consejo Superior de Deportes, with the collaboration of the Ice Palace, Pista de Hielo Madrid, and OÉOÉ Marketing.

“On Ice for Peace has been for me the event that has made me verify and reaffirm first-hand the ability of sport to generate a positive impact on society. I find it remarkable that, in two days of enjoyment on ice, we have generated a positive impact where they need it most,” said Sara Hurtado.

Hurtado stressed that, thanks to the work of World Central Kitchen, they have been able to “combat darkness with light.” “I will not tire of repeating that this is my greatest sporting achievement to date. There is no medal that compares to what I experienced during these two days. Ice skating has the ability to change the world, that is more than proven, and being part of that change is a real pride”, he commented.

For his part, the general director of the Youth Sports Foundation of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), Félix Jordán de Urríes, has pointed out that sport shows its values ​​and its most supportive face to “unite and add in favor of peace” , and to be able to contribute to the “commendable work” that World Central Kitchen is carrying out in five border countries and also in its work caring for the refugees who arrive in Spain every day.

“Our thanks to so many people who have skated for peace over the weekend, and also to Sara Hurtado, who has devoted herself to carrying out this initiative that we have supported from the start and that, from the Fundación Deporte Joven, we will continue promoting with new actions”, added De Urríes.
