Óliver Torres: “I want to win many finals, just like Atom”

He is an intense, demanding coach … first with himself and then with the group. With its tension it keeps us alert. Every detail counts and we are already getting that competitive gene from the coach. If we start from that, the end result must be good.

How do you value, in the absence of this tournament, your season of return to Spain?

He had been gone a long time. It has been to meet again with the competition and its fans. People had lost track of me. I already said that coming to Seville was a great step for me, not only on a personal level but also on a sporting level. I have grown a lot.

It is positive, because that means that the coach trusts you. But Lopetegui is also aware that I feel more comfortable indoors, next to the midfielder, where I have done better football. I have competed alongside Banega, who for me is the best midfielder in the Spanish LaLiga, and I have tried to learn everything I can from Éver.

Do you see yourself as a substitute for Éver next year?

Players are not substituted, each footballer is different. Banega has given Sevilla a lot and we know of their ability but we have to stay with their teachings and the joys they have given us. Everything happens. They always said that when Ronaldinho was not around, football was going to be something else and other great players have come. I think that in Nervión there are wickerwork to continue winning.

Do you expect to be a starter more times?

We had a year that at a collective level has been one of the best in my career, and I always look first at that, the collective. I try to give the best version of myself and do my bit. I have big dreams: I am four games away from being able to lift a title.

Do you really see it possible to win the Europa League?

I visualize it and dream it. No longer for us, but for all the fans of Seville, because it has been a difficult year for the pandemic and if they are happier, they forget for a moment everything that has happened.

Óliver Atom was a boy whose dream was to be a footballer, who was always with the ball at his feet, who was excited to kick the ball. He even injured a shoulder, and that was precisely the worst injury of my career. I want to win many finals, like him.
