Olav Kooj (Visma) wins in a learned and intense Esprint by La Tirreno-Adriatic

MADRID 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch cyclist Olav Kooij (Team Visma | Lease Bike) won this Thursday in the fourth stage of the 2025 Tyrrhenian-Adriatic, 190 kilometers with departure in Norcia and Final in Transacco, after being the fastest in a sprint that was marked by the persecution of the escape of the day until the last meters; while the Italian Filipo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) maintains the leadership.

Again with cold and rain as protagonists, a day began with several climbs along the route, but where a new arrival was expected. The escape, which would eventually be the great protagonist of the day, was formed after 45 kilometers of race. In her she was, the Spanish Jorge Arcas (Movistar Team) together with the German Jonas Rutsch (Intermark-Wanty), the Dutch Gijs Leemreize (Team Picnic Postnl), the Italian Mirco Masteri (Team Polti VisiMalta) and William Blume Levy (one-X Mobility).

In the climbs, UAE Team Emirates-XRG and the Ineos Grenadiers tried to break the race in the descent of the second port of the day also taking advantage of the wind blowing strongly to cause fans. Even the career leader, Ganna, and Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) tried in El Llano, but without success. With 30 kilometers to the finish line, the situation relaxed and the escape left again.

Thus, it would not be until once entered the last kilometer when the squad managed to hunt the escape and, without time to prepare the sprint, the Dutch of the visma imposed himself to his compatriots Rick Pluimers (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck).

This Friday, the fifth stage between Ascoli Piceno and Pergola, 205 kilometers with a ‘pink’ profile where the last port of the day is crowned in the absence of 7.5 kilometers for the finish line and that could take advantage of an ayuso combative, second in the general, to try to reduce the distance in the classification with the Italian leader.
