Oblak: “The tie is still alive”

MADRID, 5 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The Slovenian goalkeeper of Atlético de Madrid, Jan Oblak, stressed that the quarterfinal tie against Manchester City “is still alive” after losing this Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium by 1-0, after a match where they had a “cold head” against the English champion’s possession game and they defended “pretty well”.

“Everyone knew it was going to be a difficult game. We came here to get a good result and although we lost, I think that with 1-0 the tie is still alive. It will be very difficult, but at home we always have special games and I think anything is possible. City is a great team, one of the favourites, but we play at home and I believe in this team and that anything is possible,” Oblak told the ‘Movistar+’ microphone.

The goalkeeper believes that they defended “pretty well throughout the game, except in the action of the goal.” “We’ve been very good and I don’t think his changes have changed the game because we’ve closed the spaces and it’s complicated that way,” he stressed.

“City plays like this, they have a game with a lot of possession against all the teams, not just against us, and if you go crazy they punish you. We have had a cool head, closing the spaces, this has been the first part of the tie and now The second remains in Madrid and we are going with all the ambition to go to the semifinals,” Oblak continued.

The mattress goalkeeper insisted that despite the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s men, they didn’t have “many chances.” “Defensively it was a very good game and offensively we were lacking, but the most important thing was to get a good result and the tie is not defined,” he said.
