Nuria Párrizas, the only Spanish survivor in the quarterfinals of the Valencia International Open

MADRID, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The tennis player Nuria Párrizas became the only Spanish survivor in the quarterfinals of the BBVA International Open in Valencia, scoring for the WTA and which is played on clay, after beating in three sets (6- 4, 6-7)(5) and 6-1) to the Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska.

Párrizas, first seeded in the Turia capital, overcame a great losing streak of seven consecutive games in the second round, but was able to end up imposing her favoritism and her quality against Zavatska, number 230 in the WTA ranking, in a duel close to the three hours duration.

The Andalusian tennis player won the first set 6-4, breaking service at the first change, and it seemed that she was going to close the victory easily with 5-2 and serve. However, the Ukrainian chained one game after another until taking the stake to the third and final set. The Granada woman recovered from her defeat in the ‘tie-break’ and solved the problem with 6-1 and the ticket to the quarterfinals.

In this way, Párrizas is among the top eight in the Valencian tournament. In her next match she will face the Austrian Julia Grabher, who also needed all three sets to get rid of the Russian Anastasia Potapova, fifth favorite of the contest, in the round of 16.

For her part, the also Spanish Leyre Romero could not continue in the competition and said goodbye to the BBVA International Open in Valencia after falling at the hands of the Hungarian Réka Luca Jani (6-3, 6-7(8) and 6-4) in almost three hours of meeting.
