Nuria Marquès, Beatriz Lérida and Teresa Perales give new medals in the European Paralympic Swimming Championships

MADRID, 27 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Nuria Marquès, Beatriz Lérida and Teresa Perales were the protagonists of the Spanish delegation on the fifth and penultimate day of the European Paralympic Swimming Championships being held in the Portuguese town of Madeira, with special mention for the first, once again ‘queen’ ‘of the 100 back of the S9 class.

After a very fruitful Thursday, with eight medals, Friday was not so positive although Spain continued to add successes and already exceeded thirty medals (32). In any case, approaching the 48 of the previous continental event already seems complicated despite the good work of the Spanish swimmers.

The great protagonist of the day was undoubtedly the Catalan Nuria Marquès, who reissued with great authority her European title in the 100 backstroke S9, where she started as one of the favorites due to her status as well as current world runner-up and Paralympic champion.

The Barcelona swimmer dominated the test from start to finish and won with a time of 1:10.04, more than three seconds ahead of the Chinese Ying Liu and the also Spanish Beatriz Lérida, silver as the Asian did not count for the podium. The gold was the second in this European for Marquès after that of the 200 S9 styles.

And the other medal on Friday for Spanish Paralympic swimming came from the hand of its most successful swimmer, Teresa Perales. The Aragonese, winner of 27 medals in the Games, demonstrated her competitive nature in the 50 backstroke S2, an event in which she won silver at Tokyo 2020.

The swimmer from Zaragoza, who can only swim with one arm, finished in fourth position in the final, but won a valuable bronze since the victory went to the Chinese Pin Xiu Yip, who did not ‘count’, ahead of the Italian Angela Procida and Russian Diana Koltsova.
