Novak Djokovic Still Awaits the Decision about his Australian Open Participation

The Australian Open is one of the biggest events in the tennis world. It is held every year in Melbourne and is the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Certainly, one of the most important tournaments in the tennis world, the Australian Open is a huge event, among fans and bettors.

Fans love the tournament for its importance to the tennis world. And considering it is one of the biggest events, often time big names will go toe-to-toe. It is precisely for these players that most fans flock to the tournament live, or to their screens. Watching titans of the sport face each other head on brings with it massive excitement.

As for bettors, they love the event for obvious reasons. Its popularity as one of the Grand Slams (and the first of the bunch) leads to quite a few bets placed. It is a perfect warm up tournament before they move on to the much more popular Wimbledon. Certainly, when speaking about the peak of tennis betting, we are taling about Wimbledon betting. However, the Australian Open is a huge draw as well.

Novak Djokovic and the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic has been ranked the number 1 best tennis player for a long time now. And while recently he has lost the rank, he is still considered one of the best of all time. Djokovic’s success on the Australian Open is uncontested. He has won the most Australian Open single titles out of any other player with 9.

Apart from his success on the Australian Open, the player has a total of 21 Grand Slam titles under his belt, making him hugely successful in the tennis world. However, after facing some problems, Novak Djokovic missed the tournament this year. So, what happened in 2022?

Due to some issues, Djokovic was deported from Australia and could not participate in the Australian Open 2022. This caused a huge uproar within the tennis community. Fans of Djokovic were beside themselves online, demanding the Serbian player be allowed on the court. The Anti-Djokovic crowd came out in droves as well, claiming that he got what he deserved.

The Australian government, for their part, ignored the internet riots, and did what they thought was right. And while the situation could have been handled better all around, there doesn’t seem to be any ill will remaining. In fact, Djokovic is still waiting for the opportunity to participate in the 2023 Australian Open, where he is hoping to meet his old rival Nadal once again.

Will Djokovic Play in 2023?

Australian law dictates that a deported person cannot get a visa for 3 years. So, many believe that the future for Djokovic is looking bleak. However, Craig Tiley, the CEO of Tennis Australia, has brought them some rather positive news. It is his belief that Djokovic will be allowed to compete in the tournament after all.

So, how is Djokovic going to be allowed to compete, if he isn’t even allowed back in the country. Well, luckily, the 3-year-ban on visa laws has certain provisions. The rules can be waived under certain situations. And a professional sports competition might be considered one.

The former Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison has confirmed the statements made by Mr. Tiley. So, it would seem that Djokovic fans, and the man himself have very little to worry about. It really does seem like Novak Djokovic will be allowed back in the country and will be competing at the Australian Open, which he has been dominating in the past.
