Nico Williams: “I am very happy to continue in this great family that is Athletic”

MADRID, 1 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Athletic Club player Nico Williams, renewed until 2027 this Friday, is “very happy” to be able to continue with his family in the “great family” that is the Biscayan team, which he joined when he was 11 years old, starting “a path very long” until the first team, and he also remembered all the coaches he had during his training period and who have “helped” him to be what he is.

“I am very happy to be here in Bilbao and to be able to continue with mine in this great family that is Athletic. I want to thank all my teammates for giving me this opportunity. I have been here since I was 11 years old and it has been a very from the lower categories. I also don't want to forget all the coaches who have been through me and who have helped me be what I am today,” Nico Williams expressed to the Basque club's media.

The Spanish international stated that he must “continue working” to achieve “the objectives” that have been set at the end of the season, such as “entering Europe” and he did not forget the fans. “I want to thank them because from minute one they have supported me in the bad and good times, and that is important. I hope to give them everything back from Saturday,” he added.

For his part, the president of Athletic Club, Jon Uriarte, stressed that the renewal of Nico Williams is “great news for the club” and for “the ambitious sporting project” they have. “Although he was a highly coveted piece in the market since he had very juicy offers from big clubs worldwide, the player made it clear from the first moment that he wanted to continue with us,” he noted.

Uriarte hoped that the player would continue his career at Athletic “for many more years.” “For that we have to work hard together, club members, Board of Directors, players and coaching staff, to make Athletic a very attractive project, fighting for European qualifications and titles year after year,” he explained.

“It is clear that the renewals of two players of the level of Nico Williams and Oihan Sancet are very important for our club. For the Athletic model and our philosophy, they are two top-level players that we have created in Lezama,” he said about the renewals of both, which have taken place throughout the year 2023, in which the club celebrates its 125 years of history.

Finally, Athletic's top executive commented that having the two Williams brothers in the club “is incredible.” “That there are stories like this of families that compete together and fight for our shield together is another example that our philosophy is not that it has gone out of style, but that it is stronger than ever,” he said.
