Nick Pope ends Liverpool's streak at Anfield

On the day that England mourned the death of one of its world champions in 1966, Jack Charlton, brother of Sir Bobby Charlton, Liverpool, already a Premier champion 30 years later, could not beat this Saturday a Burnley with a stellar Nick Pope under his goal, frustrating Jürgen Klopp's men again and again with his saves (1-1). Burnley thus ended Liverpool's streak at Anfield, where Jürgen Klopp's team had won all their Premier matches since January 2019.

The 'reds' will be unable to break one of the records they aspired to beat, that of victories at home: beating Chelsea in their last game at Anfield of this championship would equal 18 of the City of Pep Guardiola, but they can no longer improve said figure. It is up to Liverpool to break the record of 100 points for the ‘citizens’ in a Premier: the ‘reds’ now have 93 points with 3 days to play.

Robertson, in full swing, advanced to Liverpool with a great header

Fuller's Andy Robertson advanced to Liverpool in the 34th minute. It was a great header from the left-hander, this time coming from the right, past Fabinho. In short, the only one of the many opportunities that Liverpool had that the 'reds' could take advantage of. For example, those of Mohamed Salah, in which he lacked accuracy.

But if the advantage of the Premier champion was not wider, it was mainly due to the great stops of his goalkeeper, Nick Pope. The last one before the break, to thwart a shot by Sadio Mané. Pope, English international goal but not the titleholder, who is Jordan Pickford (Everton), kept Burnley afloat.

Liverpool continued to dominate in the second half, even more comfortably. Just after that period, Roberto Firmino crashed a ball into the post. The ‘reds’ were still unable to take advantage of their chances and who did it was Jay Rodríguez for Burnley, who leveled the game after a pass behind James Tarkowski. It was the 69th minute.

The game had been really difficult for Liverpool. Burnley made things very difficult for him, the aim of the ds reds ’was still scarce against an efficient defensive network of the Sean Dyche team. Not only that. Burnley, who still dreams of going to Europe, crashed the ball into the crossbar through Johann Berg Gudmundsson. In the end, a 1-1 that rewarded Sean Dyche's against Liverpool that failed too much.
