Historic pound notes with the face of Charles III. The Bank of England has presented this Tuesday, December 20, the new paper money, called to replace the current banknotes, which bear the portrait of the queen Isabel II. They will be in circulation in 2024. As a detail, the monarch appears without a crown, projecting a more current and modern image of the institution.
“Introducing our banknote design,” begins the Bank of England ad. There are four polymer notes of 5, 10, 20 and 50 pounds. “The rest will remain the same. The image of the King will appear on the front of the paper, as well as in the transparent security window. You can check these banknotes in the same way that you can check our polymer banknotes with Queen Elizabeth II” , informs the entity.
Today we unveiled the design of the King Charles III £5, £10, £20 and £50 banknotes. They are expected to enter circulation by mid-2024. You can continue to use polymer banknotes with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Visit our website for more details. https://t.co/i5eqAhxrKY pic.twitter.com/BkYTZ0VopZ

This is the second monarch in history whose image illustrates paper money. The first time a banknote was minted with the image of the Head of State was in 1960, with Isabel II at its head. From 2024 both designs, both Carlos’s and his mother’s, will coexist on the street at the same time.
