Netherlands cancels Spain to lead its European group

Miki Oca's fall 6-10 and finish second in Group B

MADRID, Jan. 19 (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish water polo team lost this Sunday by a deceptive 6-10 against the Netherlands during the fifth day of the Women's European Championship, which is being played in Budapest, and finished in second place in Group B after signing a game to forget.

Thus, the disciples of Miki Oca were surpassed by a very inspired rival and that closed this phase of groups with full victories, adding 15 points out of 15 possible. Meanwhile, Spain will enter the quarterfinals from the second position, according to its 12 points.

The current runners-up in the world took time to catch up with the Dutch team, which opened the scoring after 26 seconds of play. Maud Megens was in charge, with a 6-meter shot, of scoring said so much and soon channeling the path of her companions.

The contribution of goals was coral, at the same time that among the Spanish attackers there was only a lack of aim. And despite his effort later in defense, Maartje Keuning extended the advantage of the 'Oranje' before the end of the inaugural period (0-2).

Many minutes of offensive blocking followed, with exclusions on both sides until Catharina Van der Sloot scored the 0-3 penalty and spurred the Netherlands. The immediate replica of Paula Leitón, making a foreshortening to finish off in a buoy position, was pure anecdote against the string of rival goals.

Nomi Stomphorst and Simone Van de Kraats scored before the break and Maud Megens repeated shortly after starting the third act. The electronic Duna Arena reflected at that time a devastating 1-7, although made up by the goals of Maica García and Beatriz Ortiz in a comeback comeback.

The fourth and final period stoked the uncertainty, since Spain found the fortune and the vat that had been missing. Another target of Maica García, along with the first ones that marked Pili Peña and Roser Tarragó, caused the battle to tighten (6-8) when they had yet to run out more than three minutes from the clock.

For an attack in numerical superiority, thanks to the third exclusion of Bente Rogge, a shot by Pili Peña could well change the tables. The goalkeeper of the Netherlands, Debby Willemsz, cleared the ball on the same goal line and the referee did not consult the VAR, so the match continued and those of Miki Oca accused such a mishap.

Catharina Van der Sloot made the 6-9 and Vivian Sevenich rounded the Dutch victory in the final stages of the duel, in which his selection showed great success. The final statistic threw a 10 of 18 in the shots made by those of Arno Havenga, while the Spanish waterpolistas signed a poor 6 of 33.
