National holiday in Houston: Isner and Opelka dispute the final

american tennis player John Isner, favorite room, beat the Chilean Cristian Garín this Saturday, seeded fifth, and got into the Houston clay tournament final. Isner needed an hour and 56 minutes to dispatch the Chilean with runs of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 as he took full advantage of his first powerful first serve, with which heogró 17 ‘aces’.

With the quarterfinal win over compatriot Frances Tiafoe, the American had avoided an elimination treble in that instance. This is the first time Isner has played a three-set match without the need for a tie-break since she beat Garin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 precisely at the 2021 Toronto Masters 1000. The American now got his first final of the 2022 season. His previous best finish of the year was reaching the semifinals in Dallas, where he lost to Reilley Opelka. Isner, former number eight in the world, equaled the personal cap at two wins each with the Chilean.

His rival in the final will be his compatriot Third-seeded Opelka, who previously eliminated Australian Nick Kyrgios in two sets 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and eleven minutes, thanks also to his powerful service with which he got a whopping 21 aces.
