The Spanish pilot Joan ‘Nani’ Roma regretted the abandonment suffered this Wednesday in the fourth stage of the Dakar Rally, disputed between Al Qaisumah and Riyadh over 465 kilometers of special, and said that they had to experience “the bitter face of sport”, something that they must accept to change their objective in Saudi Arabia.
Nani Roma and his co-driver Álex Haro suffered a rollover with the car at kilometer 80 and a tire breakage at kilometer 151, when they had resumed the race after almost an hour and a half repairing the car. “Another hard and sad day for Álex and for me in this Dakar, but that’s how racing is,” said the Catalan.
“Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes you have an accident like we have today,” said Nani Roma. “Luckily we are both well, which is the important thing. We have been able to repair the car, we have left the special and now the mechanics are changing everything to get the car ready for tomorrow,” added the BXR driver.
After abandoning the fourth stage, Folgueroles changed his objective in the Dakar 2022. “We will try to support the teammates, especially Sébastien (Loeb), who is fighting to win the race,” he admitted.
“This is the Dakar, sometimes it does not matter how hard you work, the dedication you use in hours of work, testing, to improve the car and try to win the race. It is how great and magical this sport has, that we cannot control everything. Today we have had to live the bitter face of sport and we have to accept it, “he said.
“Tomorrow we will go out again to try to run well. There are many days left and we will try above all to help the team. We work together and we will try to help Sébastien Loeb win this race,” declared Roma.
