Nadal: “I need to win games, but the preparation is going quite well”

MADRID, 10 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player and current Australian Open champion, Rafael Nadal, acknowledged on Tuesday that he was not worried about his winless start in 2023, at the same time that he confirmed his good form to try to win his third crown at Melbourne Park.

“Well, it is true that the last two months I have not been able to play much tennis and at the beginning of the season I lost two matches in Sydney, but honestly, I am not unhappy with the preparation,” said the tennis player in a statement in Melbourne collected by the Australian press.

After his participation in the United Cup, in which he lost to the British Cameron Norrie and the Australian Alex de Minaur, Nadal acknowledged that he needed some victory. “I need to win matches. But the preparation is going pretty well,” he said.

“I practice a lot and I think I’m in good shape. Then you have to show it in the matches, in the official tournaments. But I trust that if I’m able to have this last week of positive training, why not?” he said.

Finally, the tennis player was optimistic for this year’s edition and recalled his victory against all odds last season against Daniil Medvedev. “I am very happy to return to Melbourne. Last year was unforgettable,” he concluded.
