Tennis players, known as the Big Fourthe Grand Slam titles were shared almost exclusively between 2003 and 2019 and, despite being great rivals, they maintain an excellent relationship off the track.

Proof of this is that historic photo. “Heading to dinner with some friends,” wrote Federer, who is retiring at 41 and with 20 Grand Slam titles to his name. This Friday, September 23, he will play his last professional game in the Laver Cup. It has transpired that tickets are sold between 25,000 and 50,000 euros.

One of the first to react to the news of the Swiss’s withdrawal was Nadal, his great friend: “Dear Roger, my friend and rival. I wish this day had never come. It is a sad day for me personally and for the sports of all the world”.

“It has been a pleasure but also an honor and a privilege to share all these years with you, living so many incredible moments on and off the pitch. We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still many things to do together, we know that.” For now, I really wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your children, your family and enjoy what awaits you, “wrote the man from Manacor on his social networks.

Federer, beyond the titles

Roger is married to the former Slovak tennis player Mirka Vavrinec since 2009 and with her he has formed a large family of four children. Myla, Leo, Charlene and Lennart are his great treasure.

Mirka had to retire from tennis after a foot injury and has since worked as public relations for her husband, whom she met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In announcing his retirement, Federer had some meaningful words for his family.

“I want to especially thank my amazing wife Mirka, who has lived every minute with me. She tucked me in before the finals, has watched countless matches even while 8 months pregnant,” the tennis player wrote.

“I also want to thank my four wonderful children, who have always supported me, eager to explore new places and create wonderful memories on this journey. Seeing my family supporting me from the stands is a feeling I will cherish forever.”
