Nadal arrives better at Roland Garros than in 2019

After winning the title in Rome in a grand final against world number one Novak Djokovic, it can be said that Rafa Nadal arrives better at Roland Garros than in 2019, which is the last year with which its trajectory can be compared, given that in 2020 not all the ground tournaments were played due to the pandemic.

Two years ago Nadal was a semifinalist in Monte Carlo (he won Fabio Fognini =, Barcelona (lost against Dominic Thiem) and Madrid (lost against Stefanos Tsitsipas), and champion in Rome (he defeated Novak Djokovic). In 2021 he has added two titles in the same sequence, Barcelona (Tsitsipas) and Rome (Djokovic), although in Madrid (Zverev) and Montecarlo (Rublev) he did not pass the quarterfinals.

It should be remembered that at Godó he hit rock bottom in 2019 when he was close to losing against Argentine Mayer in the second round and in fact, he recognized that there he experienced a catharsis that changed the course of a season in which he raised his 12th Musketeers Cup. Now Paris faces much better physically and tennis.

“Winning gives you an extra”

“Winning always gives you an extra, but the preparation work was already done. I did what I had to do with a logical process, towards the better. Victory is a good addition. I have a very important title. We will talk about Paris. The dirt season before was neither bad nor good, and now it improves dramatically. I have won two titles, with a positive trend, and I have to work a little more, continue persevering in things that I have done much better, “he said after winning in Rome.
