Nacho Baltasar and Pilar Lamadrid continue in the fight for the podium of their divisions at the Lanzarote iQFOiL Games

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish windsurfers Nacho Baltasar and Pilar Lamadrid continued this Wednesday in the fight for the podium of their respective divisions at the Lanzarote iQFOiL Games, the last event of the year in which it will be a new Olympic class during Paris 2024, and which is still led by the Dutchman Luuc van Opzeeland and the Israeli Sharon Kantor.

On the first day of the Final Series for this event, the wind reached an intensity of more than 15 knots early in the morning, favoring the 160 sailors in the space located in front of Marina Rubicón. With the fleet already divided into the gold and silver groups, Van Opzeeland and Kantor continue at the top of the general classification; meanwhile, Baltasar and Lamadrid each occupy fifth place.

The pressure to improve caused almost the entire fleet to start early before the horn, forcing the Race Committee to repeat the procedure on several occasions. Finally, after four tests held in the iQFOiL Women's category, Kantor retained first position with splits 1-5-4 and a discarded 17th.

Of course, she did so tied on points with the second-placed Israeli Katy Spychakov, who added a 2-3-1 and discarded the 23rd place she scored in the first test of the day. In the third place, the British Emma Wilson is five points behind Kantor and Spychakov thanks to her consistency, having sealed three seconds and a fifth place.

Pilar Lamadrid from Seville also had a good day, who opened these Final Series with two partial victories and two sixth places (one of them discarded); These results placed her in fifth position in the general table, 11 points away from the top spot.

VAN OPZEELAND, MORE LEADER IN THE MEN'S EVENT

For the men's fleet, the Race Committee completed up to five races that helped Van Opzeeland settle at the top. With two new victories, a third, a sixth and a ninth that he discarded, the Dutchman opened the Final Series with 17 points ahead of the second classified, the Italian Nicolò Renna, who sealed two victories and a second place in the five races held. .

Behind, third place is occupied by the Frenchman Nicolas Goyard, 23 points behind the Italian. Meanwhile, the Balearic Nacho Baltasar suffered the breakage of his board in a collision and was left without competing in the second test of the day, although he resolved the day to finish fifth due to his partials of 19-3-29-7 in the other four sleeves.
