Mutiny at Old Trafford: hooligans enter the grass to protest against the owner

The match between Manchester United and Liverpool was postponed due to “security breaches at Old Trafford”, according to a statement from the Premier League. Several hours before the start of the meeting, thousands of fans gathered in the vicinity of the Theater of Dreams to protest to the family Glazer, the American owners of the club, and several hundred even managed to access the stadium all the way to the pitch. There they camped at ease for a few minutes, climbed onto the goals – and fell when they got off, as they picked up the television cameras -, grabbed the flags from the corners and kept shouting “Glazers out!” With a mobile in hand, we are in 2021.

Outside Old Trafford, protests continued throughout the afternoon as a helicopter constantly flew over the area. The rain also made an appearance, to confirm that it was Manchester, and messages such as “Love United, Hate Glazer” or “Apology not accepted” were read, referring to the letter the Glazers wrote reversing the inclusion of the Manchester United in the European Super League, a reason that lit the final fuse.

This Sunday is the second revolt of the fans of the Red Devils, who this week acceded to the sports city to protest before a training session for the first team. The Manchester United squad did not even leave the Lowry, the hotel they had concentrated on before leaving for Old Trafford.. Groups of fans with messages against the Glazers also appeared outside the hotel.

When security employees managed to remove all the fans from inside Old Trafford and the police had already controlled the protests outside, the delay over the scheduled start time of the match was insurmountable. Minutes later the postponement was confirmed, still without a date or time decided due to the compression of the calendar.

On the sporting level, a Liverpool victory against Manchester United would have mathematically handed the Premier League title to Manchester City, which will now have a chance on the green: if on Saturday he beats the Chelsea in the Etihad Stadium they will be champions for the third time in four years.

“We sympathize with the police and security, who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football.”, concluded the statement of the Premier League.
