Andy Murray has decided to donate all of his tournament earnings from the remainder of 2022 to children affected by the war in Ukraine. The former world number one is an ambassador for UNICEF and collaborates in a project of this organization and encourages everyone who can and wants to help too.
The personal initiative of the Scottish tennis player coincides with the announcement made this Tuesday by the governing bodies of world tenniswho will make a joint donation of more than 643,000 euros for humanitarian aid and support to the Ukrainian Federation.
“Over 7.5 million children are at risk with the escalating conflict in Ukraine, so I’m working with @UNICEF_uk to help provide urgent medical supplies and early childhood development kits. It is vital that education continues, which is why UNICEF is working to enable displaced children access to learning, as well as supporting the rehabilitation of damaged schools.along with the replacement of equipment and furniture. I will be donating my winnings from my prize money for the rest of the year but anyone in the UK can support UNICEF humanitarian response by donating to our appeal by following this link. Children in Ukraine need peace now,” Murray wrote on social media.
The player, winner of three Grand Slams, 14 Masters 1,000 and some ATP Finals, has collected more than 57 million euros in prizes during his career and this year he accumulates around 230,000. This week he will compete in Indian Wells with an invitation and then he will also go to Miami, also with a wild card.
