Andy Murray defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in Indian Wells and will face the young Spanish Carlos Alcaraz in the next round. The Scotsman, winner of three Grand Slams and who is trying to regain his best level at the age of 34, overcame the first round by beating Mannarino, number 51 in the world ranking, by 6-3 and 6-2 in one hour and 24 minutes.
The veteran tennis player had received an invitation from the Indian Wells organization to compete in the Californian desert. His rival in the second round will be Carlos Alcaraz, 18-year-old who caused a sensation at the US Open by reaching the quarterfinals.
As for the rest of the Spanish delegation competing in the Californian desert, Albert Ramos and Pedro Martínez passed the first round, while his compatriot Pablo Andújar said goodbye to the tournament at the first exchange.
Ramos defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-3 and will face Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime in the next crossing. For his part, Martínez beat the Italian Roberto Marcora 6-4 and 6-0 and will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, second seed of the tournament. The disappointment of the day corresponded to Andújar, who fell to the Australian Aleksandar Vukic by 5-7 and 4-6.
